LEAP Bridge Steel Help

Shear Connector Location

The Shear Connector Location command provides the means to locate previously defined shear connectors, along the top flange of the main girders. Two types of shear connector can be located, stud and channel. Shear connectors define regions of composite/non-composite behavior along a member. There can any number of shear connector ranges along a member.

When LEAP Bridge Steel detects a shear connector range that is designated as composite the range is considered fully composite for design purposes. If shear studs are selected as the shear connector type it does not matter how many or what the spacing is, the range is still considered composite. The same applies to channel shear connectors.

Regarding shear stud connectors, LEAP Bridge Steel will detect that shear studs were entered during the Design code checking process. If Strength and Fatigue load combinations are present LEAP Bridge Steel will perform the appropriate specification checks and report, among other details, the required number of studs and longitudinal spacing (pitch).
